PROTEST THE TERROR LAWS

Friday 11 Nov at 5.00pm gather outside The Minister for Justice and Customs (Chris
Ellison office to protest some parts of the new terror laws.

89 Aberdeen Street, Northbridge WA 6003.

Can not be more specific about what parts of the law are objected too, for I do not speak for everyone, but read the document for yourself and you will understand.

The state governments should not support this!

ANTI-TERROR LAWS forum NOV 4th, University of Western Australia

Hey everyone,

another YSAW friend from Curtin Uni sent me an e-mail to alert me of
this today,
VERY important opportunity for YSAW to make a show at- though I have
work at 1am the saturday morning after,
I should still be able to make it. This is a very important event. We
need to understand this Terror legislation, and decide on what we
believe should and should not be kept from it.

Two critical events..
-------------
Details are being finalised however please book in your diaries
FRIDAY 4th NOVEMBER, 5:45pm, University of WA (venue to be advised)

A DISCUSSION FORUM ON UPCOMING TERROR LEGISLATION which will include
speakers such as Greens Senator Rachel Siewert, and Dr Carmen Lawrence and
will represent a broad diversity of interests such as social justice,
indigenous, churches, islamic, union groups and universities amongst
others.
(Further speakers to be confirmed)

With preventative detention for up to two weeks when you have not been
proved guilty of any crime, shoot to kill provisions (which we have seen
the
result of recently in the UK), random stop and search powers and the
possibility that nonviolent activists or unionists could be charged with
sedition and jailed.

These laws are arguably the most repressive and dangerous to have been
introduced in recent history in this country.

Please join us for an informed debate on the impacts these laws could have
and what we can do about them.

Defend civil liberties - let your voice be heard...

More information will be circulated broadly, but please contact Nicola
Paris, 9228 3277 or nicola.paris@aph.gov.au
at Senator Siewerts office if
you would like further materials or to assist in the broader campaign.

It has come to my attention, that YSAW must continue

Recently a few people have asked me, why no YSAW contribution lately?
Why no meetings lately? Why no events that we were planning?

The answers are simple, and I accept full responsibility for the downturn in activity:

1) Khalid was taken, which sent me into a whole new field of interest/activity, and opened up a whole new world of contacts for me to make. I have been busy with many of these contacts, working with people from the US-UK-Japan-Iraq-Lebanon and elsewhere to form many sorts of 'disorganised alliances'. There are no groups controlling or linking us all together, yet we speak about the same topics, help each other and update our sites and information frequently.

(Khalid has since been released, found innocent and I will post that story very soon. Sorry everyone, I really F**ked things around by not doing anything with this blog and group lately)

2) Grandad got sick, so there was another thing to do
3) I started Uni to keep my brain healthy and playing Basketball and Swimming to get my body healthy for when I intend to go to Mexico and live with the indigenous folk to share their struggles.
4) I have been lazy, or preffered updating my own blog and pursuing other more self-serving interests. I won't make a denial of this, but I will try to correct it.

Please return to read the new posts over the coming days, weeks, months and years. I promise to update this site and return YSAW to its prior activities and then some!

YSAW contributor Khalid Jarrar ABDUCTED!!!

[olivebranch] - I have just finished reading Raed Jarrar's (Khalid Jarrar's brother) blog. I found news that left me ...... well I don't know what this emotion is.

Khalid Jarrar, a contributor Youth and Students Against War, and to this blog, has been taken by the Iraqi Government. His family has been given no reason but are relieved he is alive and well.

We believe it may have to do with him being a blogger. To view Khalid's blog visit:

Below is a post taken from his brothers' blog.

To Khalid, and to your family:

Our minds and thoughts are with you. Please keep us up-to-date on what is happening, as I am sure there is some things that western media can do to help you.

My mom called me today at 7 in the morning, shouting with happiness: "Khalid is okay!". Niki and I were the last members of the family to know the "happy news". Khalid called my dad from the Iraqi mokhabarat's jail to inform us he was alive; he said he was abducted by the mukhabarat men from his university. My dad called my mom and Majed, and they informed us then.

The feelings of joyfulness in our family now would give anyone the impression that khalid has won the lottery! My mom spent the morning planning Khalid’s future, including the arrangements of his wedding party!

If your child or sibling vanishes for two days then calls from the secret service jail in any other place on earth, that would be considered a disaster and a violation of human rights…

In Iraq, however, it’s Happy News.

Because the other options include: To be tortured, executed, and thrown in garbage by SCIRI and their Badr brigades. To be held by the Iraqi police and left to choke to death in one of their cars. To be held by the US troops then disappear and be mistreated for months in one of their many prisons. To be kidnapped by one of the countless criminal gangs and cost your family some tens of millions of Iraqi Dinars and/or your life.

So now you can see why being held at the mukhabarat jail is such happy news!

My dad said that Khalid mentioned something about his writings or his blog. We’re not sure whether our blogs are the reason behind the abduction of Khalid, but it’s one of the possible scenarios. In case if they were, we’ll stand for our political values of anti-violence, anti-occupation, pro-dialogue, pro-free speech, and all of the other honourable stands that my family has taken in our lifetime.

Our goal now is to ask the mokhabarat to take Khalid to court and reveal what exactly he is being charged with (if anything).
